Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure through which the surgeon eliminates the excess of skin and fat located in the lower and middle abdomen, and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall.  In other words, it is a belly aesthetic and reconstructive technique used for drastically flattening the prominent or flaccid abdomen produced by loosing weight as a result of aging, or as a consequence of childbirth.

Abdominoplasty enhances the body contour by tightening the abdomen, giving to the person a thinner waist and a flatter abdomen.

This procedure is not advisable for any person.  In those cases in which the problem is only a fat layer on the abdomen, a liposuction is more advisable.

The best candidates for abdominoplasty are those patients (men or women) who are in good shape, but not happy due to the fat deposits or the skin flabbiness in their abdominal area after having been through a plan of physical exercises and diet without having reached the desired goal.

This surgery is particularly convenient for those women, who have been through multiple pregnancies and, as a consequence, have loosened their abdominal skin and muscles without being able of getting back to their normal tightness. A person who, for any reason must loose weight, it is recommended to postpone this surgery until having reached a limit no more than 15% of his or her ideal weight. Abdominoplasty is no advisable for women who are planning a future pregnancy, because the results of the surgery could be lost in a very significant measure.

It is recommendable that the surgery may be performed in a specialized center or in a hospital and that it be carried out by a physician with experience and with a suitable personnel. According to the case, it is possible that the patient may need to stay in the hospital two or three days after surgery.

In order to maintain the results of the surgery it is necessary to keep a healthy and balanced diet and an exercise regime.
